Gelcha Kindu

Jasmine, Berries, Orange Peel

The lush, forested hills of Yirgacheffe often hide a vibrant secret, as the landscape is actually home to a thriving community of families who cultivate what is affectionately known as "garden coffee." On tiny plots of land often measuring less than a single hectare, these households nurture the 74110 variety at a staggering altitude of 2049 meters, where the cool air and rich soil allow the cherries to develop a deep and nuanced character.

The journey of these beans begins with a meticulous hand-picking process, followed by an immediate sorting at the Gelcha Kindu station to ensure that only the most vibrant fruit remains. Once the selection is complete, the cherries are spread across a landscape of 150 raised beds, where they rest under the open sun for 15-20 days. This steady natural processing allows the fruit to dry slowly, a method that preserves the inherent sweetness of the coffee while infusing it with the bright, expressive qualities that the southern Gediyo zone is celebrated for.

When you prepare your first cup, the air is immediately graced by the delicate and perfumed aroma of Jasmine. Upon tasting, the coffee reveals a lush sweetness reminiscent of sun-ripened Berries, which is elegantly grounded by a subtle and refreshing hint of Orange Peel. It is a refined and balanced expression of the Yirgacheffe terroir, offering a clean profile that lingers gracefully on the palate.
